The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly selling his one-month-old niece for N2 million. The suspect, a resident of Igbogbo in Ikorodu, claimed he carried out the act to raise funds for their mother’s burial.
According to the suspect, he met the buyer, a woman in need of a child, through Facebook. After negotiations, he took the baby to Mile 2, where a man sent by the buyer collected the child and transferred N2 million into his account.
He reportedly gave his sister N500,000 and used the remaining amount to organise their mother’s funeral.
The baby’s mother later reported the incident to the police, alleging she had no knowledge of the sale.

The suspect also admitted that his sister initially agreed but later claimed she was coerced, saying he used charms to convince her.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for further investigations.
Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID, Mr Dayo Akinbisehin, stated that the suspect will be charged to court once the investigations conclude.
