A popular native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko, has been convicted and sentenced to two years in prison by an Anambra State court for involvement in money rituals and illegal mystical practices.
Nwangwu was arrested in February 2025 by operatives of the Agunechemba Security Outfit, alongside two colleagues, Okocha (aka Onyeze Jesus) and Ekene (aka Eke Hit), over allegations of aiding and abetting kidnapping and practicing forbidden rituals.
On Friday, Jude Obiorah delivered judgment after Nwangwu pleaded guilty to several charges and entered a plea bargain with the state government.
Counts three to eight of the charges led to a two-year prison term, with sentences running concurrently. Counts one and two were struck out due to lack of sufficient evidence.

The court also imposed fines totaling ₦60 million, but waived them citing the remorse shown by the defendant. The 13 months Nwangwu has already spent in custody will be deducted from his sentence, meaning he will serve 11 more months at the Awka Correctional Centre.
Court-ordered Conditions
Justice Obiorah ordered several conditions for Nwangwu’s atonement, including:
Demolition of his shrine in Oba community.
Public renunciation of Okeite practice, recorded on video.
Permanent prohibition from practicing Okeite.
Serving as a youth reorientation ambassador, warning young people against seeking wealth through supernatural means.
The judgment highlights the state’s stance against illegal occult practices and reinforces laws protecting citizens from fraudulent mystical schemes.
