A court sitting in Kaduna has postponed the arraignment of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to April 23 following procedural delays in the case brought against him by state prosecutors.
The matter, which was initially scheduled for hearing on Thursday, could not proceed due to the absence of key legal documentation required to formally commence the arraignment.
Sources within the court disclosed that the prosecution sought additional time to perfect the charge sheet and ensure compliance with court processes.
Counsel to the prosecution informed the court that investigations related to the alleged offences were ongoing, adding that more time was needed to finalize necessary filings before the defendant could be properly arraigned.

The court granted the request and fixed April 23 as the new date for the arraignment.
El-Rufai, who served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023, was not present in court during the session.
His legal representatives maintained that their client remains ready to respond to any lawful summons and will appear in court when formally required.
The case has attracted public attention, given El-Rufai’s prominence in Nigerian politics and his role in national policy debates.
Legal analysts say the postponement underscores the importance of due process in high-profile prosecutions, noting that courts often grant adjournments to allow parties meet procedural requirements.
The court adjourned the matter to April 23 for arraignment and further proceedings.
