
Suspected bandits have abducted at least nine worshippers during a night vigil at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ojije community, Utonkon District of Ado Local Government Area, Benue State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday while the church was observing a vigil as part of a 30-day religious programme.
Local sources said the attackers stormed the church premises in the dead of night and forcefully took away the victims, made up of women and youths.

Confirming the abduction, the Chairman of Ado Local Government Area, Sunday Oche, said the incident was regrettable, noting that the church failed to involve security agencies despite prior warnings.
He disclosed that all relevant security outfits have now been mobilised to the area to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted worshippers.
The Benue State Police Command also confirmed the development. Its spokesperson stated that tactical teams had been deployed and were actively trailing the perpetrators, adding that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the victims.
The latest attack has heightened fears over worsening insecurity in parts of Benue State, where residents have continued to express concern over recurring cases of abduction and violent attacks.
