APC Denies Rumors of Dropping Shettima as Tinubu’s 2027 Running Mate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected claims that Vice President Kashim Shettima could be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 general election.

In a statement on Monday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka described the reports as “speculative, untrue, and utterly baseless.”

He said the rumors, which circulated alongside names of alleged replacements, were aimed at creating confusion and discord within the polity.

Morka urged media organisations to avoid amplifying information from “mischievous news sources of questionable provenance.”

He also called on ministers, senior government officials, and party leaders to refrain from fueling speculation and instead focus on supporting the administration’s agenda.

“At this time, our party remains focused on supporting President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in delivering the administration’s renewed hope agenda,” the statement added. The APC highlighted that ongoing reforms are steadily transforming the economy, building prosperity, and improving citizens’ living conditions.
The statement follows the APC stakeholders’ summit in Gombe in June 2025, which descended into chaos when some speakers endorsed Tinubu for a second term without mentioning Shettima. Reacting to the event, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, described it as a “non-issue.”
