A 34-year-old Nigerian, Christian Hilary Nnaemeka, has died in Johannesburg, South Africa, following an alleged attack involving television personality Xolani Khumalo and members of his Sizokthola crew.
The Nigerian Union in South Africa (NUSA) has called for an immediate and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Nnaemeka’s death.
According to the union, the incident happened at about 8pm on Monday, September 21, around Willow and Filbert Streets in Primrose, Johannesburg.
Nnaemeka, who was from Enugu-Ezike in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, was married and had a three-year-old son.
NUSA said it was deeply concerned about the circumstances leading to his death and wants authorities to establish exactly what happened during the incident.
The union called for all individuals connected to the incident to be identified and investigated, adding that anyone found to have acted unlawfully should face the appropriate legal consequences.
NUSA also asked authorities to clarify whether the reported operation involving Khumalo and his crew was officially authorised.

The union wants answers to several questions, including why Nnaemeka was allegedly attacked, who was responsible for the incident and what measures are being taken to ensure justice.
NUSA said it would engage relevant South African authorities and work with the Nigerian Mission, including the Consul-General’s Office and the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria.
The union also urged Nigerian diplomatic representatives to continue engaging South African authorities to strengthen the protection and safety of Nigerians living in the country.
While supporting lawful efforts to tackle crime and drug-related activities, NUSA stressed that such efforts must be carried out within the law and should not result in the loss of human life.
The union said Nnaemeka’s death had left his three-year-old son without his father and that determining the circumstances surrounding the incident was important to his family and the wider Nigerian community in South Africa.
NUSA pledged to continue seeking answers and accountability over the death, while calling for justice for Nnaemeka and protection for Nigerians living in South Africa.
