2027 Race Heats Up as Datti Baba-Ahmed Declares Presidential Ambition

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, has formally entered the 2027 presidential race, signaling a new phase in Nigeria’s opposition politics.

Speaking at a rally held at the LP national secretariat in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed stressed that his ambition is independent of former running mate Peter Obi’s recent exit from the party, noting that his presidential aspiration predates the 2023 elections.

He recalled his earlier attempts to secure a presidential ticket and reaffirmed that religion or ethnicity would not deter him from seeking Nigeria’s top job, insisting the constitution grants every qualified citizen equal opportunity.

While pledging loyalty to the Labour Party and electoral guidelines, Baba-Ahmed said he would await INEC’s official timetable before making further political moves.

Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, praised Baba-Ahmed for remaining in the party despite ongoing defections, describing his stance as proof that the LP remains united and focused on offering Nigerians a credible alternative ahead of 2027.

Baba-Ahmed’s declaration has intensified political realignments as parties begin early positioning in what is shaping up to be a defining presidential contest.
