The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has announced plans to train security operatives across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections, as part of efforts to ensure peaceful, credible and violence-free polls.
The Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, disclosed this during the fund’s October edition of its monthly Statewide Inter-Agency Training Programme.
Ogunsan revealed that a special election security training session would be organised in December, featuring practical exercises designed to prepare security personnel for the challenges associated with election duties.
He emphasised that the preparedness, professionalism and conduct of officers deployed to polling units and other strategic locations would play a crucial role in determining the success of the elections.
According to him, political leaders and security chiefs can give assurances about election security, but the actual responsibility rests on the officers assigned to maintain law and order on the ground.
The LSSTF boss also highlighted the positive impact of the agency’s monthly training programme in strengthening cooperation among the military, police, paramilitary organisations and other security institutions operating in Lagos.
He attributed improved relations among security agencies in the state to continuous joint training, professional engagement and shared operational experiences.
Ogunsan stressed that effective collaboration among security personnel was essential to tackling common security threats, adding that officers must see one another as partners rather than rivals.

He further disclosed that the fund was expanding its engagement with other institutions, including the Nigeria Customs Service and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to strengthen inter-agency cooperation in combating crime.
The executive secretary assured that the monthly training programme would continue throughout his tenure, with plans to extend its reach to more security agencies over the next five years and beyond.
Meanwhile, security expert Dr Wale Adeagbo urged security institutions to strengthen their professional standards and operational coordination to effectively respond to increasingly sophisticated security threats.
He noted that effective security management goes beyond the use of force, stressing the importance of accountability, ethical conduct, communication, emotional intelligence and public trust.
The programme also featured discussions on the health and well-being of security personnel.
Dr Oluwadamilola Diya of Atlantis Paediatric and Multi-specialist Hospital introduced the FRESH Protocol, which focuses on food, reducing stressors, exercise, sleep, and health checks and vaccinations.
Clinical nutrition consultant Titilayo Akindele also advised officers to maintain healthy eating habits, avoid excessive consumption of sugary drinks and fried foods, stay hydrated and prioritise their physical well-being.
The planned December training is expected to strengthen the capacity of security operatives to manage election-related challenges and contribute to a peaceful electoral process in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
