
Twelve individuals abducted by Boko Haram insurgents in Ngoshe community, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, have successfully escaped from captivity and are now safe.
According to local sources, the victims comprising 10 men and two women escaped during heightened military activity in the area, which reportedly forced the insurgents to abandon some of their captives and flee.
A resident of Pulka community explained that the ongoing security operations created an opportunity for the escape.
“Military operations in the area forced the insurgents to abandon some of the captives while fleeing with others,” the source said.

The development was also confirmed by the Borno South Youth Alliance, which stated that the escape occurred on Wednesday and that the victims have since reached safety in a nearby community.
The escapees include Aisha Audu, 20; Hajara Audu, 18 months; Aisha Idrisa, 17; Hafsat Idrisa, 4 months; Aisha Abubakar Bama, 22; Maryam Umar, 11 months; Zainabu Umar Mbasuwa, 22; Salma Abubakar, 2 months; Musa Umar, 7; Suleiman Umar, 9; Aisha Abubakar, 17; and Aisha Musa, 10.
It will be recalled that about 416 residents were abducted on March 4, 2026, during a Boko Haram attack on Ngoshe community.
The insurgents had earlier released a video issuing a 72-hour ultimatum to the Federal Government and Borno State authorities, threatening harm to the captives if their demands were not met.
Security operations are still ongoing in the region as authorities continue efforts to rescue remaining abductees and stabilize affected communities.
