A member of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guard, Abdullahi Ibrahim, has alleged that a helicopter seen during a deadly bandit attack appeared to work with the attackers.
Ibrahim made the claim while speaking about the challenges faced by local security personnel fighting banditry in Zamfara State.
He said his eight-man team was ambushed by bandits during an operation, resulting in the deaths of seven members, while he survived the attack.
According to Ibrahim, he initially believed help had arrived when he saw a helicopter flying at a low altitude during the attack.
He said he expected the aircraft to provide military support and rescue the team but was shocked by what he allegedly witnessed.
Ibrahim claimed that instead of assisting the security personnel, the helicopter appeared to coordinate with the bandits and led them further into the forest.
He did not provide independent evidence confirming the identity of the helicopter or establishing that it was working with the bandits.

The survivor also appealed to the Zamfara State Government to provide CPG members with better weapons and adequate ammunition, claiming they often confront heavily armed bandits with inadequate firearms.
Ibrahim further complained about the reported N30,000 monthly stipend for members of the outfit, saying the amount was insufficient to support them and their families.
He called for improved welfare, better weapons and a more professional command structure for the CPG, saying such measures would strengthen the fight against banditry in the state.
