Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has sharply criticized the Senate over its recent amendment on the electronic transmission of election results, warning Nigerians that their votes may be rendered meaningless.
Ezekwesili described the Senate’s clause as an insult to the collective intelligence of Nigerians, arguing that it creates a loophole that could be exploited to manipulate elections, including the 2027 general polls.
She accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio and his collaborators of signaling to citizens that their votes might not count.

Taking to X, she praised the House of Representatives for mandating real-time electronic transmission of results from polling units, calling it a step in the right direction for transparency.
She said: “In a functioning democracy, the elected can never be greater than the collective will of those who elected them.
Transparency is always better.”
Ezekwesili warned that Nigerians’ patience is running thin and urged lawmakers to reconsider their actions, stressing that undermining public confidence in elections could have lasting consequences for the country’s democracy.
