Nigerian troops operating under the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an alleged terrorist bombing plot in Zamfara State and arrested two suspected terrorist collaborators.
The military disclosed that the operations, conducted on August 7, 2026, across several communities in the state, also led to the recovery of motorcycles, communication equipment and military camouflage items.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops, working with a Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, responded to intelligence about a suspected improvised explosive device near Jabanda village in Zurmi Local Government Area.
The device was located and safely cleared, after which the road was scanned, declared safe and reopened to motorists.
The troops later encountered suspected terrorists at Birnin Tsaba in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area and engaged them in a gun battle, forcing the fighters to retreat into the surrounding bush. Two motorcycles, a camouflage jungle hat, a handheld radio and other items were subsequently recovered.
In another operation around Kwanar Jolof in Shinkafi Local Government Area, troops working with the Mobile Police Squadron reportedly engaged suspected terrorists and forced them to withdraw.

A search of the area led to the recovery of another motorcycle, camouflage uniforms, a camouflage vest and a jungle hat.
Meanwhile, troops on patrol near Maradun arrested a 35-year-old man identified as Lawali Dan Alo, who the military described as an alleged terrorist collaborator and logistics supplier.
A search of his bag reportedly uncovered ₦5.302 million in cash and a mobile phone. The military said preliminary investigations indicated that the money was allegedly being delivered on behalf of a terrorist leader to another individual identified as Kasimu Garba, who was subsequently arrested at his residence.
Both suspects are currently in custody for further investigation.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations against terrorist networks across the North-West and urged residents to provide security agencies with timely and credible information.
