
President Bola Tinubu has nominated Lamido Yuguda, former Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The nomination, announced on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, is subject to confirmation by the Senate.
Yuguda’s appointment follows the reassignment of former CBN Deputy Governor Bala Bello as Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.
The President urged Yuguda to carry out his new role with professionalism, dedication, and a strong commitment to Nigeria’s economic growth and stability.

Yuguda served as SEC DG from 2020 to 2024 and brings decades of experience in finance and monetary policy. He began his career at CBN in 1984 as a Senior Supervisor in the Foreign Operations Department, later working as an economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 1997 to 2001, before returning to CBN.
He retired from the bank in 2016 after six years as Director of the Reserve Management Department.
An alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University with a degree in Accountancy, Yuguda also earned a master’s degree in Money, Banking, and Finance from the University of Birmingham, UK.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a Chartered Financial Analyst, highlighting his extensive expertise in financial management and policy.
With this nomination, Yuguda is set to play a pivotal role in steering Nigeria’s monetary policy and supporting the government’s agenda for economic stability.
