The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Squad of the Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected cultist and recovered two locally made pistols, three live cartridges and a battle axe during intelligence-led operations in Sango-Ota, Ogun State.
The suspect, identified as Okiki Muhammed Adewusi, popularly known as “Baba Obo,” was arrested at Ore, in the Atan area, by operatives of SWAT Base 7, Abule Iroko.
The development was disclosed on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
According to Babaseyi, the suspect was arrested at about 8:00 p.m. on Monday. A search of his residence reportedly led to the recovery of a locally made pistol and three live cartridges.
The police spokesperson said preliminary investigations indicated that Adewusi admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity, a group associated with cult-related activities.
He added that information obtained from the suspect prompted a follow-up operation on Tuesday at about 6:30 a.m., during which operatives recovered another locally made pistol and a battle axe from a separate location.
