Super Eagles threaten not to play against Gabon amid NFF crisis

Super Eagles players have threatened to boycott Thursday’s 2026 World Cup playoff clash against Gabon unless their demands are fulfilled.

The squad boycotted Tuesday’s training session over unpaid allowances said to have accumulated for years. As of this morning, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

Shooting Stars media officer, Adepoju Tobi Samuel, wrote on X at 8:15 a.m., saying: “As of now, there’s still no official statement from the NFF.”

Since yesterday, there has been no update from the Super Eagles’ camp, leaving fans in the dark.

Before nightfall, the players reportedly stood their ground, insisting they would not play until the NFF clears all outstanding debts.

In response, executives of the National Sports Commission (NSC) have begun engaging with team leaders to resolve the crisis.

A source at the National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed that additional funds were released to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) late last night.

According to the source, the funds include monies earmarked for the ongoing FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, is expected to meet with the Super Eagles players this morning to address the situation.

“I’m optimistic that both sides will reach a solution and find a compromise when they meet this morning.”
