He explained that the operation followed a distress call received around 11:45 a.m. on Friday by the Divisional Officer of Onireke Division, SC Jinadu Okikiola, from the CDA chairman.
The chairman had reported that suspected thieves were caught in the community, but one of them escaped during the initial confrontation.
Following the report, the Divisional Officer and Operations Officer, ASC Taofeek Omidiran, visited the scene and met one of the suspects.
The arrested suspect reportedly revealed that his accomplice had escaped, prompting the officers to devise a plan to track him down.
The Divisional Officer subsequently used the first suspect’s phone to contact the fleeing accomplice, asking him to believe that his partner had been released and needed assistance returning home.
About an hour later, the second suspect called back and disclosed that he was at KA Fueling Station in Ogbayo.
The Operations Officer and the first suspect travelled to the location on a motorcycle, pretending to be on an ordinary journey. The second suspect was identified and arrested upon arrival.
Both men were taken to the division for interrogation, where they reportedly admitted removing aluminium window materials from a property in the community.
They allegedly took advantage of the quiet environment during working hours and the surrounding bushes to carry out the theft.
The suspects further confessed that they returned on October 30 to remove the remaining materials for sale.
A search of the second suspect’s sack reportedly uncovered scissors and a pair of side-cutting pliers, which he identified as tools used in the operation.
The State Commander, Ganzallo, commended the officers for their prompt response and cooperation with community members.
He also urged residents and CDA chairmen to clear surrounding bushes and maintain clean environments to prevent criminals from using them as hiding places.
The suspects and recovered items have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force at Ifo Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and prosecution.
