Nollywood actor Ray Emodi has announced his decision to step away from the film industry to pursue a full-time career in music, citing traumatic experiences on movie sets and pressure from his family as major factors behind the move.
In a video message shared on Instagram, Emodi revealed that some of his acting jobs exposed him to unsafe and emotionally draining environments.
He recalled filming in a town affected by violence, where gunshots could be heard nearby while production was ongoing.
According to him, the decision to leave Nollywood did not come easily and has come with personal consequences, especially within his family.
“This is a decision that has come with many consequences. My family does not support it. We are a family with strict rules and a reputation to protect, and I understand and respect that,” he said, adding that he would not do anything to bring disrepute to his family name.
Emodi noted that despite the dangers and challenges, his acting career gave him some of the best experiences of his life.
