The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has appealed to residents of Bwari Area Council to help identify and locate the mother of a newborn baby boy allegedly abandoned in the area.
The baby was reportedly found wrapped in a nylon bag in a severely distressed condition, with visible bruises on one of his hands.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, disclosed the incident in a video shared on X on Wednesday, stating that the police had rescued the child and taken him to the hospital for medical attention.
According to Adeh, the baby was found in a very poor condition, prompting officers to ensure he received urgent medical care.
She urged residents, particularly those in Bwari, to provide useful information that could help identify the baby’s mother.

The police spokesperson specifically appealed to anyone who had recently seen a woman who was pregnant but was no longer seen with her pregnancy to report such information to the Bwari Police Station.
Adeh further disclosed that the baby would receive additional medical attention before being handed over to the appropriate social welfare authorities.
She also appealed to women who may be unable or unwilling to care for their newborns to approach the nearest police station or social welfare office for assistance instead of abandoning their children.
She emphasised that the authorities were willing to help and provide support to prevent such incidents.
