The Delta State Police Command has rescued a 48-year-old woman who was kidnapped in the Ovade Forest and arrested 54 suspected cultists in separate operations across the state.
The police said the rescue operation took place on September 23 following a distress call about the woman’s abduction. Security operatives, alongside vigilantes and local hunters, reportedly engaged suspected kidnappers in a gun battle, forcing them to flee and abandon the victim.
The woman was rescued unhurt and is currently receiving attention while being debriefed. Police said efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected kidnapping gang.
Meanwhile, the command said 54 suspected cultists were arrested during operations in Eku, Obiaruku and Ubulu-Uku between September 19 and 23.

According to the police, 30 suspects were arrested during an alleged cult initiation gathering in Eku, while another 20 were apprehended in Obiaruku over alleged cult-related activities. Four additional suspects were arrested in Ubulu-Uku in connection with a suspected cult-related killing.
Police also recovered a locally made firearm, live cartridge, suspected cannabis, a dagger and other items during the operations.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the roles of the suspects and determine their level of involvement in the alleged offences.
