
Operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command have arrested two suspects following a late-night armed robbery attack on student hostels around the Ekiti State University community in Ado Ekiti.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, took place in the Iworoko area, where gunmen reportedly invaded off-campus hostels and dispossessed students of their valuables, sparking renewed concerns over security in student residential areas.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, disclosed that the command received a distress call at about 2:30 a.m.,
prompting an immediate response from officers attached to the Iworoko Police Division.
According to Abutu, the suspects forcefully gained entry into the hostels and carted away items including mobile phones and other personal belongings belonging to students.
He noted that police operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene and tracked the suspects to their hideout shortly after the attack, leading to the arrest of two individuals, while other members of the gang managed to escape.

The arrested suspects were identified as Abdulraman Abdulmumini, 26, and Abdulsalam Oseni, 31.
Items recovered from them include an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle believed to have been used during the operation, two stolen mobile phones, two MP digital radios, as well as clothing and footwear suspected to belong to the victims.
Abutu further revealed that the suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime and have provided useful information that could aid in the arrest of other fleeing members of the gang.
The police spokesperson added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover additional stolen items.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Michael Falade, has urged residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information to help curb criminal activities in the state.
