The Oyo State Police Command has arrested six suspects over the alleged possession, distribution and production of counterfeit Euro currency, recovering 89 suspected fake €100 notes valued at €8,900.
The suspects were arrested following a police patrol operation in the Labo-Wesley area of Oyo State on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
According to the command, police operatives on township patrol intercepted three men travelling on a motorcycle at about 7:30pm. The suspects were identified as Tijani Saheed, 50; Oni Oladapo, 67; Adebayo Saheed, 52; and Hammed Karemu, 25, the motorcycle rider.
A search conducted on the suspects reportedly led to the discovery of 89 suspected counterfeit €100 notes, with a total face value of €8,900.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said investigations were ongoing to establish the individual roles of the suspects in the alleged criminal operation.

The police said further investigation led the suspects to disclose the location where the counterfeit currency was allegedly purchased.
Operatives subsequently conducted a forensic search of the premises and recovered items suspected to have been used in producing the fake currency. The operation also led to the arrest of an alleged producer, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to six.
The command said the suspects remained in police custody and were cooperating with investigators. They are expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, commended the officers involved in the operation, describing their actions as part of efforts to disrupt criminal networks and protect residents and legitimate businesses from economic and financial crimes.
