The Plateau State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against crime with the arrest of several armed robbery suspects and individuals accused of acting as informants for bandits.
The operation, which was driven by credible intelligence, also led to the recovery of dangerous weapons, including three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles.
Parading the suspects at the police headquarters in Jos on Saturday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, commended residents for their cooperation, noting that timely and reliable information from the public played a crucial role in the success of the operation.
According to him, the arrests highlight the command’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
“We are open to criticism because it is only when you are criticised that you know where you are not doing well,” Ewah stated, reaffirming the police’s willingness to improve service delivery through public feedback.
The Commissioner revealed that some of the suspects were apprehended in Langtang South following a distress report by a victim.
He added that the Divisional Police Officer, in collaboration with the Armed Robbery Section of the Criminal Investigation Department, acted swiftly to track and arrest the culprits.

Items recovered from the suspects include three locally made AK-47 rifles, two revolvers, pistols, and rubber guns reportedly used in criminal operations.
Ewah emphasized that the recovery of these weapons was made possible through actionable intelligence provided by members of the public, whom he described as vital partners in the fight against crime.
The police boss further disclosed that the suspects some of whom are linked to kidnapping and banditry through intelligence sharing will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
He also lauded the Plateau State Ministry of Justice, particularly the Attorney General, for its support in ensuring diligent prosecution of criminal cases.
While appreciating the media for amplifying police efforts, Ewah called for sustained collaboration among all stakeholders to enhance security across Plateau State.
He assured residents that individuals found in possession of the recovered firearms would face the full weight of the law, with the courts determining the legality of such possession.
