There was widespread public outrage on Tuesday after officers of the Nigeria Police Force were arrested following a viral video showing them allegedly assaulting youths and confiscating their mobile phones in Lagos.
The incident reportedly occurred beneath the busy Ojuelegba Bridge, an area known for heavy traffic and commercial activities.
In the video circulating on social media, uniformed officers were seen confronting a group of young men, with witnesses alleging that force was used and personal belongings, including phones, were seized.
The footage quickly sparked condemnation online, with many Nigerians calling for accountability and an end to alleged harassment and extortion by security operatives.

Reacting to the backlash, the Lagos State Police Command confirmed that the officers involved had been identified and taken into custody.
According to a statement issued by the Command, the officers were brought before the Commissioner of Police, where their statements were taken.
The Commissioner subsequently ordered their detention pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation. The Command assured the public that the probe would be thorough, transparent, and impartial.
Police authorities also revealed that the complainant has been contacted and is expected to provide a formal statement to aid the investigation.
The outcome of the inquiry, the Command added, will be made public once concluded.
The incident has once again brought to the forefront concerns over alleged misconduct by some members of the police, with civil society organisations and rights advocates renewing calls for stricter oversight and reforms within the force.
