The Elegant Nurses Forum has demanded an immediate and impartial investigation after a nurse was allegedly assaulted by a medical doctor at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
The nurse, identified as Nurse Kareem, works in the Surgical Emergency Unit of the hospital.
According to the forum, the incident occurred around 4am on Saturday, September 26, 2026, while Kareem was on night duty and involved in the triage of an emergency patient.
The group alleged that an argument developed between Kareem and a doctor identified as Dr Salaudeen during the process.
The forum further claimed that Kareem left the area and went to the nurses’ room to seek the attention of a senior colleague, but that the doctor allegedly followed her.
It alleged that the doctor pushed the nurses’ room door against Kareem and became physical with her.
The group said Kareem sustained bruising on her left hand and later complained of chest and back pain. She was subsequently admitted for treatment and discharged on Monday, September 28.

The Elegant Nurses Forum also expressed concern over the alleged handling of the incident by LASUTH management.
According to the organisation, management was informed of the incident, while the nurses’ union structure at the hospital also became involved.
The forum alleged that while Kareem was receiving treatment, the hospital stopped taking responsibility for her medical bills and reportedly described the incident as a case of “two fighting.”
It called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the subsequent response by the hospital authorities.
The group demanded that CCTV footage covering the Surgical Emergency Unit, nurses’ room and nearby corridors between approximately 3:30am and 5am on September 26 be preserved and reviewed.
It also called for the preservation of duty rosters, emergency records, triage documents, incident reports, security logs and other relevant records.
The organisation urged authorities to interview nurses, doctors, security personnel and other workers who may have witnessed the incident or events surrounding it.
It further called for Kareem to be protected from intimidation, retaliation or victimisation while pursuing the matter.
The forum also demanded appropriate medical and psychological support for the nurse and clarification regarding responsibility for her treatment expenses.
It urged LASUTH management to explain the reported description of the incident as “two fighting” and disclose the basis for such a conclusion, if the description was made.
The group said any disciplinary action arising from the investigation should follow due process and apply equally to those involved.
It also appealed to the Lagos State Government and relevant authorities to strengthen workplace violence policies and establish clearer mechanisms for resolving conflicts among healthcare workers.
The Elegant Nurses Forum called on the nursing community and the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, LASUTH Chapter, to continue pursuing the matter.
It also announced plans for a peaceful protest to the Lagos State Governor’s Office within 48 hours and said other lawful collective actions could be considered if the matter was not satisfactorily addressed.
The organisation urged anyone with relevant evidence or information about the incident to preserve it and submit it through appropriate lawful channels.
The allegations have not been independently established, and the matter remains subject to investigation.
