The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has disclosed that it handled 36 cases of domestic violence between January and June 2026, highlighting growing concerns over gender-based violence in the state.
The disclosure was made in a statement issued in Ilorin by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Shola.
According to the State Commandant, Abbas Mohammed, the command also secured a major legal victory during the period, obtaining a life imprisonment sentence against a convicted sexual offender, a move he described as a strong statement against abuse and injustice.
Beyond domestic violence, the NSCDC handled 19 child custody disputes, successfully resolving 15, while four cases remain pending.
The command also recorded 38 cases of child abandonment, with six resolved so far. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to ensure the protection and welfare of affected children.

On security-related incidents, Mohammed revealed that nine kidnapping cases were reported within the period, adding that four victims were rescued and safely reunited with their families through the intervention of NSCDC operatives.
He further noted that eight cases involving rape, sexual assault, and child molestation are currently before competent courts for prosecution.
Commending officers of the Gender Unit for their professionalism and dedication, the Commandant urged residents to promptly report cases of domestic violence, child abuse, and other related offences.
He reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of women, children, and other vulnerable groups through thorough investigation, collaboration with stakeholders, and strict enforcement of the law.
