The 2027 Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidates Peter Obi has stressed the need for competent leadership, a production-driven economy and stronger international partnerships to unlock Nigeria’s development potential.
Obi made the remarks during a roundtable discussion at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) office in Paris, France, where policymakers, diplomats, development experts, international organisations and media representatives discussed Nigeria’s future and its role in global affairs.
The discussions focused on development cooperation and strengthening bilateral partnerships to accelerate economic growth, improve citizens’ welfare and promote sustainable national development.

Obi expressed confidence that Nigeria has the human and natural resources needed to become a united, secure and prosperous nation, but stressed that achieving this goal requires accountable leadership and greater investment in education, healthcare, productive enterprises, the rule of law and strong institutions.
Obi also called for a shift from a consumption-driven economy to one centred on production, job creation and shared prosperity.
Emphasising the importance of good governance, fiscal responsibility and mutually beneficial international partnerships, Obi said these measures would help build an economy that serves all Nigerians and restore the country’s standing in the international community.
