A mother and her child have lost their lives after two container-laden trucks overturned at Mile 2, near Freeman Market, inward Apapa, Lagos State.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred over the weekend, leaving the victims trapped beneath the overturned trucks and their containers.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that its rescue and recovery teams were deployed to the scene to evacuate the victims and clear the wreckage.
Following the accident, the affected road was temporarily cordoned off, while traffic was diverted through an adjoining service lane to ease congestion and prevent further incidents.
LASTMA deployed a crane and a heavy-duty tow vehicle to remove the overturned trucks and their cargoes, while police officers provided security during the operation.

He urged relevant authorities to investigate possible causes, including mechanical failure, overloading, improper cargo distribution, driver negligence and other potential safety violations.
Bakare-Oki also appealed to truck operators to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, secure their cargo properly and comply with traffic and road safety regulations.
He stressed that regular vehicle inspections and responsible driving, particularly by operators of heavy-duty trucks, are essential to preventing avoidable road accidents.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the dangers posed by heavy-duty trucks on Nigerian roads and the need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations.
