
Tension across parts of Taraba State has eased following a decisive military operation that crushed planned attacks by armed militias targeting vulnerable communities in the southern region.
Security sources revealed that troops, including personnel from the 93 Battalion at Ada Barracks, were swiftly deployed to troubled areas after intelligence reports indicated imminent assaults on several settlements.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with other security units, focused on raiding suspected militia hideouts.
Residents said the troops acted with speed and precision, engaging the militias in fierce confrontations and neutralizing several fighters.
The operation effectively disrupted the planned attacks, preventing what many feared could have resulted in significant casualties and destruction.

Local communities, particularly in Chanchanji and surrounding Tiv settlements, have since witnessed a return of calm.
Villagers described the military presence as reassuring, noting that the deployment has restored confidence among residents and farmers preparing for the planting season.
Community leaders have commended the intervention, praising the government’s swift response to the growing threat.
Governor Agbu Kefas was specifically acknowledged for his role in strengthening security efforts across the state.
Similarly, stakeholders lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the deployment of troops, describing the move as timely and critical in averting a potential crisis.
The President General of the Tiv Cultural and Social Association in the state, James Bakah, said the operation has significantly weakened militia activities and prevented further escalation of violence.
Despite the success, community leaders have urged authorities to sustain the military presence, stressing that continued operations are necessary to fully eliminate militia threats and ensure lasting peace in the affected areas of Taraba.
