Afrobeat singer Made Kuti has opened up on his approach to marriage proposals, saying he chose not to kneel when asking his wife Inedoye Onyenso to marry him.
The 30-year-old Grammy-nominated artiste, son of Fela Kuti, said the decision was deliberate because he views marriage as a mutual commitment rather than one partner begging the other. He made the remarks during a recent episode of the Timeless Podcast on the Nix Network YouTube channel.
“I did not go down on my knees when proposing to my wife because I told her it was a mutual decision. We are not begging each other to be with each other,” Made said.

The couple married in a private ceremony in Lagos in November 2023. Made revealed that Inedoye was once his “school daughter,” and the pair have since spoken openly about their union despite facing criticism over their different ethnic backgrounds.
In 2025, the singer pushed back against online comments accusing him and Inedoye, who is Igbo, of “mixing blood,” calling such views a form of “slave mentality.”
