Residents of the Minanata community in Sokoto have been thrown into grief and tension following the killing of a 15-year-old volunteer teacher, Malam Usman Halilu.
The tragic incident, which occurred in Sokoto South Local Government Area, has sparked widespread outrage among residents, civil society groups, and community stakeholders.
During a joint press conference organized by the Minanata Community and the Minanata Future Association, participants strongly condemned the act, describing it as senseless and unacceptable.
According to reports, a postgraduate student of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Maccido Mohammad, alleged that the suspect, identified as Mansur Arzika, had an earlier dispute with the victim.

The disagreement was reportedly linked to a previous incident in which the late Halilu identified the suspect in connection with a theft case.
Sources revealed that the teenager was attacked while returning home. Despite attempts to escape, he was allegedly overpowered and killed by the assailant.
The killing has raised fresh concerns about safety in the community, with residents calling on the Sokoto State Government and security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of those responsible.
A legal practitioner, Ibrahim Muhammad, has also pledged to pursue the case to ensure justice is served.
Late Halilu was described as a committed volunteer teacher who dedicated his time to educating younger children in the community.
His death, residents say, has left a deep void, particularly among students and families who benefited from his efforts.
Community leaders warned that failure to bring the perpetrators to justice could erode public trust and embolden further acts of violence.
