The Federal Capital Territory Administration has rescued several children from an orphanage in Kagini, Bwari Area Council, following growing concerns about the facility’s welfare standards and alleged illegal adoption activities.
The operation was carried out by the FCT Department of Child Development under the Women Affairs Secretariat, in partnership with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, security operatives, and other social welfare agencies.
Officials said the raid was the outcome of weeks of discreet investigations sparked by reports about the orphanage’s operations and the condition of children housed there.
Some of the rescued children — including those said to have been brought in from Benue State — have been identified and placed in protective custody.

Authorities confirmed that arrangements are underway to provide them with medical care, counselling, and other forms of psychological support.
However, upon arrival at the facility, the team discovered that the proprietress had fled, abandoning the premises. Security agencies suspect her disappearance is linked to possible breaches of adoption procedures and violations of child protection laws.
Efforts are ongoing to track her down and uncover the full extent of the alleged activities.
The FCT Administration reiterated its commitment to safeguarding vulnerable children and enforcing the Child Rights Act, warning that individuals or organisations that exploit or endanger minors will be prosecuted.
Investigations into the case are still ongoing.
The incident follows previous operations in which NAPTIP intercepted similar cases involving trafficked or illegally adopted children, reinforcing concerns over abuse of orphanage systems in parts of the country.
