Residents of Agor-Uwagboe community in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State are appealing for urgent government intervention as a ravaging gully erosion has destroyed more than 30 houses and disrupted movement in the area.
The erosion has also cut off the community’s access road through Ofumwengbe and Egbiri communities, forcing residents to construct a wooden bridge to allow motorcycles to pass.
A concerned resident, Ernest Uwagboe, warned that the situation was worsening, expressing fears that the entire community could be wiped out within the next three years if urgent measures were not taken to control the erosion.
He disclosed that the gully continues to expand annually, threatening more homes and the livelihood of residents.

Similarly, the community’s spokesperson, Kenneth Adoni, said several appeals had been sent to relevant government agencies over the past three years without any meaningful response.
He explained that the erosion has severely affected residents, particularly schoolchildren, who struggle to get to school whenever it rains.
The community has therefore appealed to Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, to urgently intervene and prevent further destruction.
Residents fear that without immediate government action, Agor-Uwagboe could face complete displacement as the erosion continues to consume the community.
