Gospel Music Star Bunmi Akinnaanu Passes Away

Renowned Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known by her hit song “Omije Ojumi,” has passed away.


The news of her death was confirmed on Tuesday through a statement shared on Instagram by fellow gospel artiste Ayo Melody on behalf of the family.

According to the announcement, Akinnaanu died on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos.
The statement, which was accompanied by a photograph and short video clip of the late singer, described her as Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye and offered prayers for her eternal rest.

It was signed by Olawale Akinnaanu on behalf of the family.
The cause of death was not disclosed. However, in recent months, the gospel singer had publicly requested prayers over a leg-related health challenge.

In October 2025, a video that surfaced online showed her during a church service in Ibadan, seated with her leg stretched out while prayers were offered for her recovery.


Bunmi Akinnaanu began singing at a young age and later made the bold decision to leave a banking career to pursue gospel music full-time.

She rose to prominence with “Omije Ojumi,” a deeply spiritual song that became widely embraced in churches and Christian homes across Nigeria. She went on to release other songs, including “O Ti Sure.”


Following the announcement of her death, tributes have poured in from fans, fellow gospel artistes, and church communities, celebrating her life, faith, and lasting impact on gospel music in Nigeria.
