The Ghana Police Service has arrested eight suspects for allegedly assaulting a 21-year-old man during his initiation into an internet fraud operation in the Bono Region.
The victim, identified as Godstime Umukoro, was reportedly found with multiple assault marks after police responded to a distress call at Kotokrom, in the Sunyani West Municipality, on October 4, 2026.
According to the Bono Regional Police Command, the suspects allegedly admitted during interrogation that they severely beat Umukoro as part of his initiation into the fraud business, claiming they had undergone a similar process themselves.
Police investigations further revealed that the group was allegedly brought to Ghana by a man identified as Nwachukwu King Augustine, described by the suspects as their chairman.

The police also alleged that the group used downloaded photographs of foreign military personnel to deceive people online, pretending to be soldiers serving on the war front in Yemen. The victims were reportedly persuaded to send money, which was subsequently transferred to their alleged boss’s account.
The eight suspects, aged between 18 and 30, remain at the centre of the police investigation as authorities continue efforts to tackle fraud and related criminal activities in the region.
The Bono Regional Police Command commended members of the public for their intervention and reaffirmed its commitment to fighting crime.
