The Ghana Football Association has dismissed head coach Otto Addo, just three months before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a string of disappointing results in international friendlies.
The GFA confirmed the decision in an official statement on Tuesday, shortly after the Black Stars suffered a 2–1 defeat to Germany national football team at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart.
This loss came on the heels of a 5–1 thrashing by Austria national football team last Friday, intensifying pressure on Addo’s leadership.

“The decision takes immediate effect,” the GFA said, adding that a “new technical direction” for the Ghana national football team would be announced in due course.
Addo’s tenure lasted just over two years, during which he recorded eight wins, five draws, and nine losses. While he initially brought hope to the national team, recent inconsistencies and heavy defeats ultimately led to his exit at a critical stage of World Cup preparations.
The sacking has left the Black Stars facing uncertainty as the team searches for a new head coach capable of steadying the squad ahead of football’s biggest stage.
