A yet-to-be-identified driver sustained serious injuries on Monday after his Suzuki vehicle crashed into a tanker along the Magboro axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
According to eyewitness accounts, the accident occurred when the driver, allegedly dozed off while driving at high speed, rammed into the rear of the tanker.
The impact caused the smaller vehicle to become wedged beneath the tanker, which reportedly continued moving from the Arepo area to Magboro without the driver noticing.
An eyewitness, Obinna Igwe, described the incident as alarming, noting that residents made frantic efforts to alert the tanker driver.
He said people shouted and signalled repeatedly as the tanker unknowingly dragged the trapped vehicle along the road.

Another eyewitness, Olumide, suggested that the crash may have been caused by fatigue.
He explained that the driver appeared to have fallen asleep behind the wheel, leading to the high-speed collision. Residents eventually used caution signs to stop the tanker before rescuing the victim.
The injured driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was said to be conscious but severely hurt when he was pulled from the wreckage.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) arrived shortly after being alerted and rushed the victim to a nearby emergency hospital for treatment.
When contacted, the FRSC Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Afolabi Odunsi, stated that he had not yet been officially briefed on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
