The Office of the United States Secretary of War has released information about its recent meeting with the Nigerian delegation led by Nuhu Ribadu.
Sean Parnell, Assistant on Public Affairs and adviser to the U.S. Secretary of War, has outlined the key details of the meeting between War Secretary Pete Hegseth and the Nigerian delegation led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
Ribadu met with Hegseth in Washington shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump issued a warning to jihadist groups accused of terrorising and killing Christians in Nigeria.
It was further gathered that the delegation included Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Ojukwu, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede.
Trump recently designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC), citing allegations of widespread, targeted killings of Christians in the country.
Parnell wrote on War.gov that on November 20, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth hosted a Nigerian security delegation led by National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu at the Pentagon.
According to him, the talks focused on advancing concrete measures to halt attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria and strengthening joint efforts against jihadist groups operating across West Africa.
Secretary Hegseth stressed that Nigeria must show commitment and take immediate and long-term measures to end violence against Christians. He also expressed the Department’s intent to collaborate closely with Nigeria to deter and weaken terrorist threats to the United States.
