A staff member of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has died after being electrocuted while carrying out repair work on an electricity pole in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
The tragic incident happened opposite the Federal Polytechnic Satellite Campus, where the worker and his colleagues had gone to restore electricity following a power outage in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the technician was working on top of the electricity pole when he suddenly appeared weak and disoriented before suffering an electric shock.
His colleagues quickly attempted to rescue him before officials of the Ekiti State Fire and Emergency Service arrived to safely bring him down from the pole.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention but was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment.
Residents described the incident as heartbreaking, noting that it is the second fatal electrocution involving a power worker at the same location.
In 2012, a staff member of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), identified as Samuel Isaac, also lost his life after being electrocuted while working on an electricity pole in the area.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over the safety of electricity workers and the need for stricter safety measures during maintenance operations.
