Yoruba actress Omoshalewa Yusuf, popularly known as Basira Beere, has opened up about her failed marriage, alleging years of physical abuse and revealing that she lost four pregnancies as a result.

Speaking on the Talk to B podcast, the actress accused her ex-husband of repeated domestic violence. She said the abuse began just two days after their wedding and continued until she left the marriage.

Basira explained that she ignored warnings from friends about her husband’s background, choosing instead to support him financially. She claimed to have sponsored about 70% of their wedding ceremony. Trouble started, she said, when a congratulatory message from another man led to a violent confrontation that even drew in their landlord.

The actress said she stayed longer than she should have because of advice from her parents, who urged her to be patient and endure. Only her siblings, who lived with her at the time, knew the full extent of what she went through, she added.

According to her, the beatings were frequent and over minor issues, eventually causing her to lose four pregnancies. She recounted that during their last altercation, she was left covered in blood. The incident later appeared on social media platform Gistlover, though she said she does not know who leaked the story.

Basira Beere’s account has sparked renewed conversation online about domestic violence and the pressure on women to stay in abusive marriages.
