Residents of Baji community in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State have raised concerns over alleged persistent attacks and the destruction of farmlands, calling for urgent intervention from the authorities.
The community’s Madakin, Usman Yusuf, said more than 60 residents had reportedly suffered injuries in attacks over the past five years.
Yusuf said the latest incident, which occurred on September 19, 2026, left three farmers — Yahaya Ibrahim, Rabiu Jibrin and Bashar Mohammed — seriously injured.
He alleged that farmers had been threatened and prevented from accessing their farms, while crops belonging to about 92 households were reportedly destroyed during alleged night grazing activities.

According to him, a peace meeting involving security agencies, local government officials, representatives of herders and community leaders was held after an inspection of the affected farmlands.
The meeting reportedly resolved that herders should leave the affected farmlands and relocate to an alternative area provided by the community, while both parties were urged to maintain peace.
However, Yusuf alleged that some attacks continued and that some herders resisted the relocation directive.
He appealed to the Federal Government, Niger State Government and security agencies to urgently intervene, warning that continued attacks without adequate protection could increase tensions in the community.
