
Three persons have lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving an ambulance conveying a corpse and a commercial tricycle in Umuahia, Abia State.
The incident occurred on Thursday at the Big Gutter axis along Aba Road, leaving two Keke passengers dead on the spot, while a third victim died later at the hospital.
According to eyewitness accounts, the ambulance, reportedly driven by a woman and carrying the body of a 77-year-old woman for burial to the Isi Court area of Umuahia, was allegedly speeding when it collided with a tricycle coming from the Ubakala–Old Umuahia route.

The impact of the crash threw the area into confusion, as sympathisers quickly gathered at the scene and alerted security operatives. Police officers later arrived and assisted in evacuating the injured victims to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, for treatment.
Some residents who witnessed the incident alleged that the crash may have been caused by excessive speed on the part of the ambulance driver, although this claim has not been officially confirmed.
At the time of filing this report, no formal statement had been released by relevant authorities in Abia State regarding the accident.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Abia State Sector Command, confirmed that the incident had not yet been reported to its office.
