DSP Dies by Suicide After Arrest for Supplying Arms to Bandits

DSP Isah Abdullahi of Mopol 12 in Niger State has died by suicide amid allegations of supplying arms to bandits. He headed the Mopol 12 armoury in Minna, where an audit by Abuja detectives revealed 13 missing AK-47 rifles and over 2,000 rounds of ammunition.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Inspector John Moses, attached to the Niger State Government House.

During interrogation, Moses allegedly revealed that the late DSP supplied him with arms and ammunition, which were then delivered to bandits and other criminals in Erena community, Shiroro Local Government Area, via an intermediary.

The Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) reportedly took over the investigation, transferring the suspects to Abuja. The DSP was later returned to Minna for a physical audit of the armoury, during which he died.

Confirming the incident, Niger State Commissioner of Police Adamu Elleman stated, “The DSP brought out boxes that were supposed to contain ammunition, but they were empty.

In the process, he suddenly produced a pistol and shot himself.” He added that an autopsy would be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

Following the suicide of DSP Isah Abdullahi, police have arrested the officers who accompanied him to the armoury for alleged negligence, while four other policemen attached to him are under interrogation. A special security team from the NSA has taken control of the armoury.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, Abdullahi was initially arrested on December 15, 2025, over suspected illegal dealings in ammunition. Investigations into the missing weapons and the broader arms supply network are still ongoing.
