Orji Kalu: First Biafra Agitation Justified, Second Not

Orji Uzor Kalu has shared a rare insight into his private knee conversations with the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, revealing that Ojukwu considered the first Biafra agitation necessary, but believed a second push was no longer needed.

Speaking on Arise Television, Kalu recalled spending time with Ojukwu in his later years—an experience he says Ojukwu’s wife, Bianca, can confirm. He dismissed claims that he is “less Igbo,” insisting he has always been deeply connected to the Igbo community.

Kalu explained that Ojukwu questioned the logic of violent agitations, asking how anyone could fight for a homeland while harming the very people they claim to defend. He condemned attacks on Igbo people who go out for business on Mondays, calling such actions irrational.

He advised current agitators to embrace dialogue rather than violence, urging them to put down their arms, negotiate peacefully, and pursue their goals through political processes—including the possibility of a referendum.

Kalu warned that ongoing destruction in the Southeast has crippled commerce and worsened living conditions, stressing the need to stop damaging Igbo land and focus on rebuilding and restoring peace.
