Hilda Baci to cook world’s largest jollof rice pot

Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has revealed that she’ll be using 250 bags of rice, weighing approximately 5,278 kilograms, to cook the largest pot of jollof rice on September 12, 2025.

The giant pot designed for the event measures six meters in width and height, with a volume of 22,619 litres, aiming to fill it up to 80% capacity.

To make the jollof rice, Baci, in an Instagram video, said she would need 1,583 kilograms of tomato paste, calculated based on 0.30 kilograms of paste per kilogram of rice.

She added that she’ll also be using pepper chicken paste and jollof paste to create the most delicious Nigerian jollof rice.

The event, scheduled to take place at Muri Okunola Park in Lagos, promises to be a grand celebration of Nigerian cuisine, music, and community spirit, with live performances planned and free attendance.

Baci’s record-breaking attempt has generated buzz on social media, with many fans and followers expressing excitement and admiration for her culinary skills and mathematical prowess.

“My goal is to fill this pot up by at least 75 to 80 per cent. That means I will need about 5,278 kilogrammes of raw basmati rice to achieve the yield.

“I am making the executive decision to do 250 bags. For one kg of rice, you would need between 0.20 to 0.35, but because it’s Nigerian jollof, I’m going to use 0.30.

“That means I will need 1,583 kilogrammes of Gino tomato paste,” she said.

Baci added that the tomato base would be shared evenly across tomato paste, pepper chicken paste and jollof paste to make the “most delicious, largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice you have ever tasted”.
