The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has arrested a 24-year-old man, identified as Wisdom Amaunam, for allegedly vandalising a 330-kilovolt (330kV) switchyard in its Benin sub-region.
Amaunam, a resident of Erediauwa Community, was reportedly arrested at about 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2026, while allegedly removing cables and wires from a marshalling kiosk within the power facility.
According to TCN, the suspect was caught by a security officer during a routine patrol of the switchyard.
He was subsequently handed over to the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for investigation. He remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and possible arraignment.
The company commended NSCDC personnel for their cooperation in protecting critical national infrastructure against vandalism and other security threats.
TCN warned that the theft or destruction of equipment at transmission facilities could disrupt electricity transmission and negatively affect power supply to homes and businesses.
