The Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KCPC) has seized 5,964 bottles of expired soft drinks allegedly stored for sale at Singer Market in Kano.
The confiscation followed a complaint received by the council that a trader had stocked large quantities of soft drinks whose expiry dates had passed.
Following the report, the council immediately sent enforcement officers to the market to investigate and remove the products to prevent unsuspecting customers from buying them.
The Director of Enforcement and Removal of Substandard Products, Auwalu A. Muhammad, said the council was committed to protecting consumers in line with its legal responsibilities.
He assured residents that the agency would continue removing expired products and goods whose packaging information, particularly expiry dates, had been altered.
The Executive Secretary of the council, Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, said the enforcement exercise would continue across markets, shops and supermarkets throughout Kano State.
He warned traders against intimidating or harassing enforcement officers, explaining that their activities were aimed at protecting residents from illnesses that could result from consuming expired and unsafe products.

Ibrahim urged traders to cooperate with the council by voluntarily removing expired or damaged goods from their shops instead of hiding them or tampering with their expiry dates.
He noted that such cooperation would protect public health, improve customers’ confidence in businesses and support the growth of the trading sector.
The executive secretary also appreciated Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for providing the necessary support and resources to enable the council to carry out its responsibilities effectively.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying market inspections and removing expired and substandard products from circulation across the state.
