A man identified simply as Abiodun has reportedly died after allegedly consuming insecticide following a heated disagreement with his girlfriend in the Idimu area of Lagos State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday evening in the Ire Akari community after the woman allegedly informed him that she was no longer interested in continuing their relationship.
According to a resident who spoke to PUNCH Metro, the man, believed to be in his early 30s, consumed the insecticide during the argument after his girlfriend announced her decision to end the relationship.
He was reportedly rushed to a hospital along Powerline Road, where medical personnel attempted to save his life. However, he later died.
The source disclosed that Abiodun’s mother, who works at a supermarket in the area, was alerted and made efforts to secure medical treatment for her son, including raising money to purchase prescribed medication.

Sadly, she was reportedly informed of his death when she returned to the hospital on Sunday morning.
Abiodun was subsequently buried on Monday, while the whereabouts of his girlfriend have reportedly remained unknown since the incident.
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said she was not aware of the incident but promised to provide further information after making enquiries.
As of the time of filing this report, the police had yet to issue an official update on the incident.
