Suspected bandits have reportedly killed five police officers following an ambush on a police convoy travelling from Sokoto State to Zamfara State for a special duty assignment.
The attack, according to reports, occurred on Sunday while the officers were travelling in three vehicles when armed men suddenly opened fire on the vehicle at the rear of the convoy.
A police officer who survived the attack confirmed the incident, disclosing that five of his colleagues lost their lives during the assault.
The officer, who spoke anonymously, explained that the gunmen launched the attack unexpectedly, targeting the third vehicle conveying some of the personnel.

Disturbing videos circulating on social media reportedly showed the lifeless bodies of some officers inside a vehicle, with their hands and legs allegedly tied. Their belongings were also seen scattered around the scene, while bloodstains were visible inside the vehicle.
The officers were reportedly deployed from Sokoto State to Zamfara for a special security assignment when the incident occurred.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of Police Zone 10, ASP Abdallah Faruku, for official confirmation were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the growing security challenges confronting security personnel and residents in Nigeria’s North-West region.
