About 200 students of Government Science Secondary School, Batagarawa, in Katsina State, have reportedly been hospitalised following a suspected food poisoning incident.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday after several boarding students suddenly fell ill, with contaminated food suspected to be the cause.
The affected students were rushed to General Amadi Rimi Orthopedic and Specialist Hospital in Katsina for emergency medical attention. The facility reportedly struggled to accommodate the large number of patients.
Videos circulating on social media showed several students lying on the hospital floor while crying and appearing to be in distress. Medical personnel were also seen attending to the affected students.
In one of the videos, students were transported to the hospital in a large bus, while some were carried into the facility for treatment.
The person who recorded the footage appealed to doctors across Katsina State to visit the hospital and assist with the emergency.
The video recorder also expressed concern over reports that some students had collapsed and were in critical condition, warning that the hospital might not have enough capacity to handle the situation.
However, the exact number of students affected and their current health conditions remained unclear as of the time of reporting. It was also uncertain whether any deaths had occurred.

Parents and guardians were advised to contact the school authorities and hospital management for verified information about their children’s conditions.
Meanwhile, the Katsina State Government and the hospital management had yet to issue an official statement explaining the incident or confirming the number of affected students.
The suspected food poisoning has not been independently confirmed, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
