The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has buried one of its members, Ifeanyi Christopher Nwolie, who died after being shot during an attack on the party’s campaign office in Enugu State, vowing to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Nwolie, 43, and a native of Affa in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, was reportedly shot on October 10, 2026, during an attack allegedly carried out by suspected political thugs at the party’s campaign office in the GRA area. He died two days later.
The burial ceremony, held on Thursday, October 22, was attended by the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the party’s Enugu State governorship candidate, Christian Ohaa, other party leaders, candidates from across the South-East and supporters.
During the ceremony, Obi reportedly expressed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for comfort for Nwolie’s aged mother. He also pledged to take responsibility for her care and welfare.
Obi emphasised that politics should not be treated as a do-or-die affair, regardless of political or financial status.
Ohaa, in his remarks, expressed deep sorrow over the loss and assured party members that Nwolie’s death would not be in vain.

The party’s chairman in Udi Local Government Area also disclosed that Ohaa had paid the deceased’s hospital bills, reportedly exceeding ₦5 million, and covered the burial expenses.
The NDC reiterated its determination to seek justice for Nwolie and other victims of political violence in Enugu State.
The burial comes amid growing concerns over alleged political attacks in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a related development, police reportedly arrested a traditional ruler, Igwe Obiora Igwesi, his brother and former House of Representatives member, U.S.A. Igwesi, and eight others over an alleged armed attack on NDC members in Obuoffia, Nkanu West Local Government Area.
The arrests followed a petition submitted by the party to the Inspector-General of Police concerning an earlier attack on its ward meeting in Ihuani Awkunanaw on September 12, 2026, during which eight members reportedly sustained gunshot injuries.
The police have commenced investigations into the incidents as the party continues to demand the prosecution of those responsible for the alleged political violence.
